This Saturday and Sunday, we're going to be holding a chat session. The hours are always hard to come up with, since there's a fairly large time different between the US and the UK. We're going to have it the same time we did way back in June.

9pm - 1am GMT
4pm - 8pm EST
3pm - 7pm CST

Hope to see everyone there this weekend.
A few notes
Posted Wednesday, August 29, 2001 by Red Phoenix

Later today expect some news on the next chat event for RCT Station. It's been a while since the last one.

If you intend to get involved in the Community News, sign up now. Friday is the last day to sign up. I feel the community news has done many sites a lot of good through the advertising here, but it is starting to be a pain to keep up with it. The program will continue, but no new sites will be accepted after Friday night. If you already signed up, but have not heard from me, don't worry, I'll get to it later this week.

RCT Survivor
Posted Saturday, August 25, 2001 by Red Phoenix

As it was announced a few weeks back, RCT Survivor, which was formerly hosted at RCT Tracks, has been moved to RCT Station, because of the merger. We've finally got the section up as well as the forum for it. If you've got questions, post them in that forum, and Rob Tonto or XuXus Petals will get to you as soon as they can.

Just as a reminder, don't forget to attempt our contest. It runs until the end of September, so you've got plenty of time. The contest is very difficult, and it should get the brain ready for returning to school for many of you. And don't forget, there's a prize involved.

When I'm not working on RCT Station, I'm usually doing something to further the Gametropics Network. We would appreciate it if you checked out the main Gametropics page when you visit RCT Station.

You will always find the latest gaming news, as well as a few cheats and some reviews/previews.
RCT News
Posted Monday, August 20, 2001 by Red Phoenix

This morning, my October issue of PC Gamer arrived, and on the cover, it said "50 best games of all time". I knew that if this list was legitimate, RCT would be in there somewhere, and there it was at #40. Below is the commentary for RCT, and it's very interesting if I do say so myself.

Why is it on the list? Eloquently designed with universal appeal, RollerCoaster is an addictive hit with casual and hardcore gamers alike.

Why did creator Chris Sawyer make it? "I bought a book called White Knuckle Ride and became fascinated with the engineering behind rollercoasters, and with the look and design of them. It made me think about creating a game where you could build your own."

Oddest thing he did for research: "I got some very strange looks from passers-by while taking close-up photos of litter bins in a theme park."

And the worst? "I spent three days in bed after riding one rollercoaster nonstop for over one hour. Maybe that's why there's so much vomit in the game!"

Will there be a RollerCoaster Tycoon 2? "There are many things I would like to do better or differently in a sequel, and when technology allows and I have the time and resources, I'll definitely return to the game."
AC Amusements Launched
Posted Monday, August 20, 2001 by Red Phoenix

Several months ago, Dark Rider posted a plethora of screenshots of some interesting rides he's created. One thing I thought was tremendous was that he always kept them exclusive to RCT Station. Now, months have passed, and he's still never published them on a website..until now.

I admit that the navigation to this section isn't the easiest (the link is on the tracks page), but you can find it here, and you may want to think about bookmarking it, as Dark Rider will try to produce additional rides. If you've got ideas for new creations, drop him a line at Mrac2u@aol.com.
Troubleshooter's Guide to RollerCoaster Tycoon
Posted Sunday, August 19, 2001 by Red Phoenix

We have just added one of the most helpful articles yet. We've assembled some of the most annoying and most often asked about problems involving RollerCoaster Tycoon and its expansion packs into one fairly robust article to help everyone. Whether you just bought RCT yesterday, or in March of 1999, this article is almost a must-read. Head on over to the RCT Station Knowledge Base.
Attachments, where?
Posted Saturday, August 18, 2001 by Red Phoenix

I've been noticing that fewer and fewer people are remembering to attach their submissions to their emails to me. Only about 40% of you remember to do this, which is really getting bad. Please double check your emails before you hit "Send."

Chris Sawyer.com Updated
Posted Tuesday, August 14, 2001 by Red Phoenix

It's been a while since anything's changed there, but they have created a page that shows some of the graphics "up close and personal".

They have also posted a picture of the "Ruined Church", which is something that was supposed to be included in with either the spooky or graveyard themeing, but never made it in.

Speaking of that Ruined Church, I wish Chris would have made it allowable for us to be able to download new features that could only be done by him/Hasbro/Infogrames in some sort of enhancement pack.

I would first like to announce that Carrie Holsinger, webmaster of Tycoon Resource, is now leaving the site, apparently due to things in her personal life. On behalf of RCT Station, I'd like to wish Carrie the best of luck in her life's adventures. The new Site Manager will be announced shortly.

RCT 1000 has posted the awards for a recent contest regarding RCT sites. RCT Station brought home the proverbial Gold in every one of the categories, which include "Best RCT Site", "Most Creative RCT Site", "RCT Site with the most content" and RCT Site with the best Communication".

Yeah! Thanks to everyone who voted. I wasn't even aware of this set of awards. A graphic will be on the site as soon as it's provided from RCT 1000.

RCT Haven is back. Angelfire has been having problems apparently, and their menu is working. They've also added a new park and track pack.

Let me help with RCT is looking for BETA testers for their RCTPiNGer utility. They're looking for people with Windows 95 and Windows 2000. It's been tested on 98, 98SE, ME, and XP RC2. If you have Windows 95 or 2000, let them know you're willing to help BETA test it.

I have the feeling that the guy from Peeps RCT will have something to do with Tycoon Resource's job opening. Just a hunch.

A few months ago, I added a second hard drive to my PC. When attempting to run RCT, I got a prompt from Windows asking me to place the CD-ROM to where the new hard drive is, which is where the CD-ROM drive used to me. This whole thing can be fixed with a tweak in your registry. To find out how, check out the RCT Station Knowledge Base.

About the future of the site
Posted Saturday, August 4, 2001 by Red Phoenix

Instead of replying to the half-dozen emails I get every day about when the new design is coming, I've decided to answer that question, and so much more on the forums. I've discussed the future of the site, in terms of where I'm taking it, and I've announced some upcoming changes. You can view this and post comments to it in the following thread:

RCT Station Cell Circuit Park Contest
Posted Friday, August 3, 2001 by Red Phoenix

Just the name of this thing is confusing. The time has finally come to reveal the next contest, one that will challenge the best RCT veterans out there. The entire concept is really confusing, so we suggest that you read, re-read, and read the rules again. Instead of spoiling the whole thing here in the news, I'll let you go take a look at the actual contest page. Due to the complexity of this whole thing, we are planning on giving away a small $25 Gift Certificate to Amazon.com

Please remember that any questions regarding this contest should be placed in the Contest Forum, and NOT emailed.

Good luck!

Just so everyone knows, the July results will be up either late tonight or Thursday morning. One Friday, the next contest will finally be announced, and it's really going to be an interesting and challenging contest.

I'm also going to delete some of the news on this main page because it's old and it slows down the page loading.
