RCT Station News
Archive - January 2002
On this page, you'll find the news
in which was on the site during January of 2002. Links and
images that may be listed below may not work due to maintenance
to the site since the posting of the news.
| Trains and Trucks Tycoon
Posted Thursday, January 31, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | Tycoon Resource has posted a number of screenshots from an upcoming game called Trains and Trucks Tycoon. Steve Bonham eludes to the slight possibility that this may be a complete overhaul of Transport Tycoon by Chris Sawyer. You can see the screenshots here.
After looking at the screenshots, I just cannot come to the conclusion that Chris Sawyer has anything to do with this. It appears that Tiscali Games is the developer.
I'd love to see Chris Sawyer bring in something new for Transport Tycoon, as I've never gotten around to playing any of the older versions. | | . |
| Workbench
Posted Thursday, January 31, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | I just added the new Titanic Park workbench. Quite honestly, I think we have enough workbenches for people to use. | | . |
| Forums Up
Posted Wednesday, January 30, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | The forums are back up, so you can return using them as usual. They do seem to be running a bit slower than usual. | | . |
| Community News
Posted Wednesday, January 30, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | RCT Simple has run into some major problems with their host - they deleted all their files. Mike Sand, webmaster of RCT Simple, has placed an announcement on the main page of the site claiming that they will make an attempt to rebuild the site.
Coaster Games will be opening on February 2nd. | | . |
| February Contest
Posted Wednesday, January 30, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | As usual, we're following up our contest results with the launch of our newest contest. There is no such thing as a perfect contest, as some people prefer full-blown park contests, and some prefer track contests. This contest for February somewhat splits these two extremes in concepts. For full details and rules, head on over to the contest page. | | . |
| Forum Status
Posted Wednesday, January 30, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | So much for getting the boards back up this morning. All of the contest-related things slowed me up quite a bit, so I wasn't able to finish working out the changes and problems with the boards yet. It looks like it'll be another day or two. Depending on what progress I make tonight, the forums may not be up until the first, but we'll see. | | . |
| January Contest Results
Posted Wednesday, January 30, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | Damon has finished up judging on the January's bobsled coaster contest. I've just added the results. Congratulations to the winners, and thanks again to those of you who entered the contest. | | . |
| Misner Parks
Posted Tuesday, January 29, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | It's been several months since Jared Misner has sent over a new park. I just added his latest park, Glenlock Gardens. | | . |
| Downtime
Posted Monday, January 28, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | The boards will experience some downtime late tonight. If they're down, come back tomorrow sometime.
Update: The forums will be down for a bit longer than planned. While I might get them back up late Tuesday night, Wednesday morning is probably when things will be back up. In the meantime, feel free to post on the other boards on the network.
Expect the contest results about then as well. | | . |
| Community News
Posted Monday, January 28, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | The form mailer for the community news is down, but I left instructions on the page for those of you who use it. This is all the news I have at the moment.
RCT Comics needs some staff members. To be specific, they need one for strategies, one for cheats, and one for downloads.
RCT Inc is celebrating their first anniversary with a fairly beefy update consisting of 32 new parks and a new awards page.
Tycoon Planet's contest is almost over. Check out the site for further details.
Misner's Competitions has finished their contest from last month and have announced a new one. The winner will get $5. | | . |
| New Bob Hooley Park
Posted Monday, January 28, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | Bob recently sent over his new Laurel Glen Park. Several more parks are on the way this week. | | . |
| January Contest Over
Posted Monday, January 28, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | All entries for the January contest had to be in last night. If any of you haven't submitted them yet, you're out of luck. The results will be up soon, as will the rules of the February contest.
Thank you to those of you who took the time to enter this contest. | | . |
| Workbenches
Posted Sunday, January 27, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | Several workbenches have been added to the site today. The majority of them come from the newest staff member, Carrie Holsinger, former webmaster of Tycoon Resource. | | . |

| Articles Keep Coming
Posted Friday, January 25, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | As promised, I've delivered the goods for the knowledge base this week. Earlier, there was a new article plus a huge FAQ section. Today's update includes five new articles related to hacking. Hacking (cool tricks) is one of the more popular requests we see here, so in typical RCT Station form, we've delivered them on a silver platter in the knowledge base. | | . |
| Community News
Posted Friday, January 25, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | RCT Comics has completed their new design. Sign up for their forums.
RCT Simple has added some new parks and a new competition.
RCT 1000 has added new forums and a staff member.
The RCT Masters Club has completed their second group park, Forbidden Falls, which is also currently available. | | . |
| Community News Reminder
Posted Thursday, January 24, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | I'd like to remind webmasters of RollerCoaster Tycoon or roller coaster sites that if they want to drive a little extra traffic to their site, that they check out the community news page. News submissions have certainly dropped off this year, perhaps due to the community getting smaller. | | . |
| Back up
Posted Thursday, January 24, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | Looks like RollerCoaster Tycoon is back up one spot in the sales charts. Empire Earth seems to have dropped a few spots to give way.

| New Track
Posted Thursday, January 24, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | Steve Franks has been in his workshop working on a new work of art to show off. We weren't able to give you anything new last week, so this one is really good. Buzzsaw Falls was the world's first water coaster. You can see Steve's recreation here. | | . |
| Affiliate News
Posted Wednesday, January 23, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | This isn't community news, by the way. Those updates come later in the week.
Coasters 2K has run into some problems with their host. They will be down for a while longer.
RC Pro has posted a new spotlight, Fair Heaven Falls.
 | | . |
| Other Utilities
Posted Wednesday, January 23, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | While searching through a few sites, I came across two interesting utilities. One is a Track Editor/Viewer and the other is PEEP (Park Editing and Enhancement Program). Both are still in their testing (BETA) stages, but you may wish to take a peek at them. As the webmaster there notes, download these at your own risk! | | . |
| Saved Games
Posted Wednesday, January 23, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | This week really is all about the knowledge base, but I've managed to squeeze in five new Loopy Landscapes saved games.
Updates will continue throughout the week as normal. During next week, you might see a day or two without an update, but what do you expect? I'm running at full-tilt at the moment with updates. | | . |
| Reminder
Posted Wednesday, January 23, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | This month's contest is just about over. You have roughly a week to get your entry in, so get working! | | . |
| Carousel Sounds
Posted Tuesday, January 22, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | The carousel music file page is finally complete. You will now find all ten carousel music file replacements available for download. | | . |
| Knowledge Galore
Posted Monday, January 21, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | This week will feature a ton of knowledge base additions. It's been quite a while since there's been much for updates there, and everyone needs help, so we're going to offer it, of course.
rcthelp is the latest addition to the staff.
To kick off this weeks update to the knowledge base, I've added a Frequently Asked Questions section and an article on transferring your RCT scenario progress.
Many of you may remember the old FAQ, which contained about seven questions. The new one is several pages long, covering just about every topic RCT-related.
Stay tuned throughout the week for more big additions to the site. | | . |
| Wallpapers
Posted Sunday, January 20, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | The last time I checked the site, there were only two wallpapers. I'd like to expand this into a separate section if we can get some decent ones. It would also be nice to get some "RCT Station" Wallpapers if anyone is any good with graphics. As always, if you create something, drop it in my mailbox. | | . |
| Links Page
Posted Sunday, January 20, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | If you wish to have your fan site or coaster site on our Links page, post your site in this thread. I'll be updating that page soon, so be sure to post soon. | | . |

Posted Saturday, January 19, 2002 by BLĄde | | | | Dirt cloud islands Glacier lake Ice dale Twisted desert Sunny park Martian mountain
Get them in the Scenarios section | | . |
| Hanging in there...
Posted Friday, January 18, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | Back with the sales charts, I must admit that RCT has lost a spot. Empire Earth took fourth this week, thus bumping RCT to fifth place.

| Community News
Posted Wednesday, January 16, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | RCT Simple has added a section dedicated to the future of RCT. There is also some news about a competition. Check out the site for that.
Neighborhood 86 has added some help files and some scenario tracks. The first few Scenario Workshop files should be up soon.
The RCT Depot will resume normal updates soon. The webmaster has been experiencing PC problems. | | . |

| Community News
Posted Saturday, January 12, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | Not too much community this week, which is surprising.
RCT Stalls-n-All has added a new interview with Joseph Drexler, creator of the ever-famous Drexler Patch. | | . |
| Holding at #4
Posted Friday, January 11, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | I believe it's been three weeks in a row that RCT has remained at number four in the top selling PC titles.
1) The Sims: Hot Date Expansion Pack; Electronic Arts - $26 2) Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone; Electronic Arts - $29 3) The Sims; Electronic Arts - $44 4) MP Roller Coaster Tycoon; Infogrames Entertainment - $20 5) Return To Castle Wolfenstein; Activision - $53 6) The Sims: House Party Expansion Pack; Electronic Arts - $26 7) The Sims: Livin Large Expansion Pack; Electronic Arts - $26 8) MS Zoo Tycoon; Microsoft - $29 9) Empire Earth; Vivendi Universal Publishing - $47 10) MP Civilization 3 - Infogrames Entertainment; $46 | | . |

Posted Friday, January 11, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | We've added a new award to our shelf. This one comes from RCT Central.
Speaking of RCT Central, they've added a short review about RCT Station. Check it out. | | . |
| Scenarios submissions
Posted Friday, January 11, 2002 by BLĄde | | | | Well there's been a bit of a crisis here where I am lately so I haven't had time to check submissions. But I do still have them and will probably have a look at them early next week. | | . |
| Track Pack
Posted Thursday, January 10, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | Steve Franks has finished up his recreation of Belmont's Giant Dipper. This is a great wooden coaster. You can grab it here. | | . |

RCT 1000 has opened up a trainers section on the site. | | . |
| Weekly Poll
Posted Thursday, January 10, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | On Tuesday, I changed the poll to see just what you thought in regards of various changes within the site. After you vote, feel free to share your thoughts in this thread in the forums. | | . |
| Stalls
Posted Wednesday, January 9, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | I've added the stalls section to the site. It may not have any comprehensive information in there, but how much can you really say about a Restroom?
This gets rid of one of the "Construction" pages that RCT Simple duely noted in their review. | | . |
| Review
Posted Wednesday, January 9, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | RCT Simple is a relatively new and upcoming fan site, and it's truely impressed me so far. In December, they elected us as the Site of the Month. On Tuesday, they added a review of RCT Station. They have reviewed a few other of the top sites, and they're worth a read. | | . |
| New Park
Posted Wednesday, January 9, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | I've added a new park from Bob Hooley called Springlake Park. Bob's parks have been improving over the past few months, so check it out. | | . |
| New Poll
Posted Tuesday, January 8, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | Since Christmas is over, I got rid of the old poll. I said that in 2002, RCT Station was going to get better. This time, you get to have some influence in this. The new poll gives you five choices for new features.
What are you waiting for? Go vote! | | . |
| New Mike Robbins Park
Posted Tuesday, January 8, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | Mike Robbins has recreated his Seven Wonders of the World Theme Park. This is an entirely different park. You can compare the new (2002) version with the old one, as I decided to leave the old one up. You can download this new park right here. | | . |
| New Sound File
Posted Monday, January 7, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | I've added a new carousel sound file from Steve Franks. There are only two more left to add in the section. These will be added within the next two weeks, and then move onto some new sections. | | . |
| Scenario section upgraded!
Posted Monday, January 7, 2002 by BLĄde | | | | The scenario section has grown so big I had to split it up into separate sections and why I was at it I added some new features! The top downloaded scenarios are now the top 10 most downloaded and it shows who created the scenario next to it. The scenarios for now are in 2 sections: 1 for my scenarios and the rest sent in. Send in more than 5 scenarios and get your own section too! It now tells you if a section has been and on what date it was last updated. When you submit your scenarios you will now be taken to a guidelines page first.
And these scenarios have been added Golden land Scenario park | | . |

| SGM 3.12
Posted Saturday, January 5, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | As Blade has pointed out in the previous bit of news, we're looking for scenarios. Creating quality scenarios isn't the easiest of things to do, but there is one tool that is far better at making things easier, and that's the Save Game Modifier. Dr J has updated it not too long ago, and you can grab it here. | | . |
| New scenarios added

| Rocky Road
Posted Friday, January 4, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | Sorry for the server downtime, but it couldn't be helped. We were down for the majority of the past day and a half. I'm not sure if the bumps have been smoothed out yet, so we'll wait and see. I'm not sure when updates will resume, as it depends on the server. I had plans of adding the new SGM on Wednesday night, but that certainly didn't happen. | | . |
| New Workbenches
Posted Tuesday, January 1, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | I've added five workbenches to the site. It's amazing what you'll find going through old email. I still have a few more to add. | | . |
| Report a Problem
Posted Tuesday, January 1, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | Just as a reminder, if you're having problems with something on the site, please report it. I cannot do anything about it if I don't know about it. I'd added this in the navigation bar as well. | | . |
| Community News is back
Posted Tuesday, January 1, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | I've resurrected the old Community News submission form. I know that for most of the sites out there, better than half of your traffic came due to our Community News. The same rules apply as before, put our mini-button on your site, then you can submit news.
To get your site jump-started, head over to the submission form. | | . |
| Happy New Year
Posted Tuesday, January 1, 2002 by Red Phoenix | | | | I'd like to wish everyone a happy new year. I hope you enjoyed the millions of parties that went on throughout the world. Here's hoping for a great year at the Station and maybe something new from Chris Sawyer by years end. | | . |
