Forums Will Be Down!

The forums on the Gametropics network will be down all weekend. We're hoping to have them up again on Monday, barring any unforseen problems. Stay tuned to the site for further details.

What's going on?
Posted Thursday, June 28, 2001 by Red Phoenix

To be honest, there really hasn't been much with the other RCT sites this week. It's been very slow, and I'll mention that news later in this news piece.

Wednesday afternoon, we had a few hours of downtime with the forums if you recall. We've restored the majority of the stuff, although the post counters aren't quite right, and I think the member count is off by a few. I've also been busy pruning the forums of the old, and not so useful posts. There's still a long way to go before that stuff is finally gone, however. Since we're on topic of the forums, we should have some news on them within the next 24-48 hours, and you should pay attention for that.

Now, it's on to the "Community News".
JPark RCT has added Lightning Racer to the real coasters section, as well as some photos of Astroworld to the park info section.

Robocoasters has added Pleasure Parks as an affiliate of theirs.

RCT Inc has all kinds of stuff going on. They are looking for some staff members. I'd suggest that you read the news on their site, since it's got a list of jobs tha need to be filled more or less. Also, their competition is coming to an end. It ends on July 1st, and there have only been nine submissions. If you want to win, you'd better get your submission in!
.
Forums Down
Posted Wednesday, June 27, 2001 by Red Phoenix

This afternoon, our forums went down again. I have to admit it's been quite a while since we had a major downtime with them, so we were having good luck. With this downtime, the post counters aren't quite accurate.

UPDATE: If you signed up as user "Nat_The_GameNut", you have a very interesting name, BTW, but you'll have to reregister it. When we backed up the forums, you hadn't registered yet, so I was unable to save your username.

Expect another announcement about the forums soon!

Saved Game Update
Posted Saturday, June 23, 2001 by Red Phoenix

There are five new parks up. Once again, they're of the Loopy Landscapes Fantasy park variety. You can check them out here.

Just so everyone knows, the forums will be worked on in the next few weeks. This includes some color changes and some pruning of the old, and unnecessary posts.

RCT Xtra has added "Turtle Heights" to Fox's saved game collection. They'd like some comments, and keep the competition entries coming in!

RCT Inc has run into a bit of trouble. Their co-webmaster (Urban) quit, and it's such a big loss that the site might shut down soon. It's unfortunate to see this happen, but I wish you guys the best of luck.

RCT Downloads, Etc. has added four new track files to their site.

RCTSA had changed their counter code and added a new saved game. They haven't posted much on the site since they haven't received much for submissions, so be sure to help them out!

RCTUK is up to something...
Posted Thursday, June 21, 2001 by Red Phoenix

RCTUK has started a Spotlight-like contest, called RCTUK Choice.

Also, this Friday, they are releasing the new ride exchange. It's supposed to be like what the official site had. Here's what they have to say:

RollerCoaster Tycoon UK will be opening a totally automated Ride Exchange system on Friday evening at 9pm GMT // 4pm EST.

This will be similar to the exchange found on the official site, it is totally automated and automatically reads the Excitement, Intensity and Nausea information from the track file you upload.

Progress
Posted Thursday, June 21, 2001 by Red Phoenix

I know a lot of you are curious as to why the updates have nearly stopped. As I've mentioned several times, I'm working on some big changes to the site. It will hopefully make some things a little easier to update in the future. This is always a good thing.

Progress has been going fairly well the past two days. I got a good chunk of it done on Wednesday. We can only hope that I can do the same throughout the rest of the week and into this weekend. I will try to get some sort of normal update up soon...perhaps a few saved games.

It's amazing how long it takes to get everything working properly on such a big site.

For those of you who have applied for that job opening, I will get back to you next week sometime. I'd like to get some more of this stuff finished before I get to choosing a new staff member.

Tycoon Resource's webmaster, Carrie, will be leaving on vacation soon. There won't be any new updates there until early July, since she and her husband are also moving into their new house.

Yep, it's a really slow news day. Actually, it's been slow for a while now...

New Poll
Posted Tuesday, June 19, 2001 by Red Phoenix

We finally put up a new poll. The old one was up for nearly two weeks, so it had to go. This week, we're asking what kind of new staff people you'd most like to see. Keep in mind that the first choice (landscapers) would do yardwork faster than the regular crew in RCT.

Newsletter
Posted Sunday, June 17, 2001 by Red Phoenix

One of the services I don't tend to push too often is the newsletter. I don't send out newsletters nearly as often as I used to, simply because most of you visit the site more often. If the site were to go down or something, I would have no way to contact you, letting you know about our situation. That's why I'd like to see many of you sign up for the newsletter. I also send one out for major updates to the site, so you'd be one of the first ones to know about it.
.
Big Update
Posted Sunday, June 17, 2001 by Red Phoenix

As promised, here's another saved game update. There is a total of eight new Loopy Landscapes Fantasy Parks on the site. One or two are just updates, but they have been renamed.

I'm also looking to add a staff member to RCT Station. I wasn't planning on this, but I don't have any other choice, I guess. The job will not be any of the normal webmastering that I do on the site each and every day, but it will be work that I need done, and I have to admit that it's not going to be fun. It will eat up your spare time very quickly, so if you've got plenty of free time, let me know if you're interested. Only serious people contact me!
.
Update
Posted Saturday, June 16, 2001 by Red Phoenix

We haven't really had an update since Wednesday, so it's time. You may notice that the poll is a little behind, but don't worry, it should be changed early next week.

I've added two new Real Park Recreations to the site. One of them wasy posted earlier in the week, but the creator didn't tell me it was a recreation. There is also a new Corkscrew Follies/Added Attractions Fantasy Park on the site.

There should be another update tomorrow. I've got some more parks to put up (I always do!).

Community News
Posted Friday, June 15, 2001 by Red Phoenix

I didn't post any community news yesterday, since I only had one site send in anything, and I figured it was pointless to bother with it.

Skeg's RCT has closed the registration for their second park project. They also added four new parks, an intense coaster and four mega tracks.

Pleasure Parks has added three new parks and they're looking for submissions.

Tycoon Resource has added 4 new scenarios, 19 new roller coasters, and 3 new water rides to their site.

RCT Xtra's contest results are up. They're all set for the next competition, so be sure to check out the park and get ready for it.

Chat
Posted Wednesday, June 13, 2001 by Red Phoenix

I'm trying to set up a weekly chat event for the site, and allow everyone to come in and have a good time. Without a set time for the chat room, not everyone is in there at the same time.

The last one we had was fairly successful, but it could have went a little better. If you'd be so kind as to let me know what day and time you could make it, that'd be wonderful. To do so, I've set up a thread in the forums for this. Remember to include your time zones in the thread.

Saved Games notice
Posted Monday, June 11, 2001 by Red Phoenix

The past few days I've been looking into the pile of saved games I've yet to put on the site, and there are a few things I would like to bring up.

The first is how many times you send your park. If you send it once, I'll get it. I've had some folks send their parks in as many as 11 times in the same day, and I'm not talking about updates either. Unless our server blows up or the connection to it is somehow disconnected, I get your submissions. Send it once, that's all I ask.

The second is file size. Starting now, I want all new park submissions to be either closed or have no peeps in them. The files are just too large. One way to do this is to use the TRG Trainer and "Nuke" all of the peeps. I've tested this on a few saved games, and it's dropped file sizes big time. Every KB we can saved on the site is better for the server, and will mean we will be here longer. I will probably "Nuke" some of the other saved game files on the site to help decrease the load on the server.

I should also note that if you don't "Nuke" the peeps, I'll do it myself.
.
New Saved Games!
Posted Monday, June 11, 2001 by Red Phoenix

Updates have been slow coming as you've noticed. That will either tell you that I'm either really lazy or I'm busy (you be the judge). Anywho, there are three new saved games up. This includes one for CF/AA and two for Loopy Landscapes.
.
Community News

RCTStuff will be shutting down soon. The webmaster will be moving onto bigger and better things. Sam would like to thank the whole RCT community for the submissions.

Good luck in your future adventures.

RCTXtra has added a new park, called Turtle Falls.

RCTSA is down at the moment, due to server problems with MGON. They have an update all prepared, so stay tuned to their site. They're also looking for submissions.
.
Ad Banner issues
Posted Sunday, June 10, 2001 by Red Phoenix

A while back, we added the ad banner to the site, and it has caused navigation problems for several of you. If you are one of the people who is seeing this problem, email me. I'd like to see how many of you are actually suffering from this, and I can add it to my priority list depending on that.

Minor update

If you have emailed me this week about signing up for community news, I'll try to get to you either this weekend of early next week. There really hasn't been much going on this week for site updates at any of the RCT sites.

New Poll
Posted Thursday, June 7, 2001 by Red Phoenix

Last week we asked you about what kind of new footpaths you'd most like to see. Stairs was the winner, just edging out curved paths. Well, this week we're asking which type of weather effect would you most like to see. The ones we put up mostly pertain to the winter months, so the parks would actually be able to be open all year round, which would be cool.

Saved Games update
Posted Monday, June 4, 2001 by Red Phoenix

There haven't been too many updates lately, and I apologize for that. I've been working on a lot of things lately, some of which, you can see sometime in the future.

In the meantime, I've done a fairly big update for the day, which includes twelve new saved games. Eleven of them are for Loopy Landscapes, and one is for Corkscrew Follies. The majority of all of the saved games that I have are for Loopy Landscapes, so if any of you have saved games for older versions of RCT (original or Corkscrew Follies/Added Attractions), please send them over. They are requested very often, since not everyone owns Loopy Landscapes, which is a real shame.

The big 500!
Posted Sunday, June 3, 2001 by Red Phoenix

Today, our forums reached the magical 500 member mark, which is huge, in my opinion. I'd like to thank everyone who has signed up for the forums, and I look forward to interacting with you in the future.

As you can imagine with 500 members, there a lot of helpful people in the forums. If you are having problems with something with RCT, I highly recommend that you post your problem(s) on the forums. Emailing me with problems won't necessarily get solved, as it's hard to keep up on everything going on.
