New Poll
Posted Thursday, May 31, 2001 by Red Phoenix

We've added a new poll this evening. We're asking what kinds of new paths you'd most like to see in a future version of Rollercoaster Tycoon.

In our last poll, we asked you what type of path accessories you would like to see the most. Overall, it was a VERY close vote, with ATM's coming out on top, followed by Metal Detectors and Telephone Booths.

RCT Xtra has worked on their main page, and got rid of the flash. They're looking for submissions as well.

Robocoasters has added a newsletter option to the site, and they're looking for submissions.

RCTSA has been having a little trouble with transferring the site to the new server, but they have updated the current site with a new track file and an interview with our own Steve Franks.

Good news!
Posted Wednesday, May 30, 2001 by Red Phoenix

From what I've heard so far, the Community News project has turned out to be a fairly successful affair. I was really hoping this would work out, since not every RCT site gets recognized.

Steve Franks has been busy in the kitchen, cooking up another tasty morsel. Steve has unveiled Vortex @ PKI.

I've also added a new Loopy Landscapes Fantasy Park, called Coaster Tribute Park.

Be sure to check out all of today's additions!

RCTUK has worked on their design a little bit. They've worked on their Downloads page design, and they've worked on the navigation bar.

RCT Xtra has added a new main page, with the installation of NewsPro. They are looking for submissions, so help them out!

Skeg's RCT has had a bit of trouble lately. The hosting server has been down, so there hasn't been anything new in the past few days, until now. There are 5 new parks in the vault, a new featured park, 2 new intense coasters and 6 new mega tracks. Registration for the second park project has now opened, so sign up!

Tycoon Resource has added 1 new park, 2 new scenarios, 7 new roller coasters, and a new link to the database. Also, Carrie is looking for submissions, so send her some of your stuff.

I had a little trouble with my email client and the mail server over here. I know there was a massive email sent to me this afternoon, and if you were the one who sent it, email me (without the attachment). The email was probably over 1 Meg in size, and was sent between noon and 3 PM CST. Like I said, if you were the one who sent it, email me, so we can fix this.

I've taken seven of the better entries from all of the contest entries (minus the top 3), and put them on the site. They all require Loopy Landscapes, of course.

Speaking of contests, stay tuned to the site this week for news on the next one.

Robocoasters has added a few tracks to the site, and put a new poll up. They're also looking for forum members and submissions, so if you have any tracks or saved games lying around, check them out.

RCTWeb is working on some sort of RCT cheat program. It's still in progress, so not a whole lot is known about it. They gave the story to our affiliate, Tycoon Resource. Here's what it said:

"The design of this program is simple, to give all the known RollerCoaster Tycoon cheats available to a player in one simple easy to use program that can be updated as and when new cheats are found.

The program itself is basically 3 screens and 1 splash screen with information about it. More screens will be added to the program as and when cheats are discovered to work, then the program will be split so you can search for cheats for your current version (eventually). It's made in Visual Basic and takes only seconds to load up and shouldn't interfere with the RCT game itself. Please stay tuned for more updates on this program and be sure to check out RCT Web in the next couple of days for more information and screenshots!"

Posted Saturday, May 26, 2001 by Red Phoenix

I don't know if there will be anything new on the site tomorrow to be honest. To fill that possible, void, you can join in and chat about whatever you'd like in our new chat room. RCTUK and RCT Station have teamed up to bring our growing communities into one, big chat room. I will be in there from time to time, so come on in.

Ogrewood Parks
Posted Saturday, May 26, 2001 by Red Phoenix

It seems as though it was a month ago when Ogre said he had a series of parks on the way. Well, we've finally made it a reality. Ogre had one of the parks on the site for a very long time, but I've made a separate section for the parks. There are three new saved games to view, plus the old one. Be sure to check them out, and give Ogre some feedback.

New Poll
Posted Tuesday, May 22, 2001 by Red Phoenix

As you can see, we've put a new poll up. The past three weeks we've asked you about which Entertainers you would most like to see in a future version of Rollercoaster Tycoon, and those winners were: Mummy, Dragon, and Cleopatra.

This week, we ask you which Footpath Accessories you'd like to see added to a future version of Rollercoaster Tycoon, and I think I chose some pretty good ones.

Let's see what the other RCT sites have been up to, shall we?

RCTSA has added a new saved game to the site. Damon, the site's webmaster, is also looking for submissions. Please give him a hand by sending stuff to him.

RCT Inc has added 47 new tracks to their growing site. Be sure to check them out. Chris, the webmaster, is also looking for submissions, so give him a hand.

RCTStuff is now offering free webhosting to RCT sites. If you're interested, check out the site.

Skeg's RCT Park has updated the site with three new featured parks and five new mega tracks. Be sure to check them out!

RCT Tracks will be ending their contest soon. You only have until the end of May to get your submissions in. Rob, the site's webmaster, says that if he receives enough emails, he may extend the deadline.

Ad Banner problem
Posted Sunday, May 20, 2001 by Red Phoenix

First off, you can stop sending me the screenshot, as I see what the problem is now. The problem isn't too severe, however. I mean, you can just click "Downloads" or whatever from the navigation bar, but not all of the links in the drop down menus. For the time being, I suggest that you navigate that way if this is affecting you.

Unfortunately, this cannot be fixed in 3 seconds. The iframe in the ad banner is the problem, as I mentioned in my last post, and it will call for a redesign of the site. If you noticed, Through The Ages recently got a new look, and all of the fan sites are scheduled for one now that the ads have been put in place.

Ad Banner issues
Posted Saturday, May 19, 2001 by Red Phoenix

I've received reports that the ad banner is not allowing many people to use the drop-down menus on the navigation. Unfortunately, out of the three browsers I use, none of them seems to be able to replicate this. It's obviously caused by the iframe the ad uses. If any of you seem to have this problem, send me a screenshot of it, so I can see what it looks like exactly.

Community News - Moonfruit sites
Posted Saturday, May 19, 2001 by Red Phoenix

If you have an RCT site hosted by "Moonfruit", do NOT fill out the form for the community news. Whatever you guys do to use that Flash for the site, it's horrible. I've waited literally minutes for the page to load, and it gives me a migrane just thinking about it. Either find a way to shrink the Flash files or do a different navigation. It's just terrible for anyone with less than a Broadband connection.

Imagineer Ultimate Ride Movie
Posted Saturday, May 19, 2001 by Red Phoenix

As with every night, I go around finding news for Gametropics, and I found something interesting tonight (technically Saturday morning). I came across a movie for an upcoming coaster game from Disney, and I've never heard of this game, so it's certainly a surprise. Build your own coaster using real physics, and then ride it through a fantasy landscape, all in beautiful realtime 3D.

If you'd like to view this movie, go here. Please note that the movie is in .MOV file format, it's 4.55MB in size, and it's about 41 seconds long.

Community News launched
Posted Friday, May 18, 2001 by Red Phoenix

If you're the webmaster of an RCT fan site, this is good news for you. A lot of the fan sites are small and don't get much publicity and have a chance to shut down because of the lack of submissions. This should change to an extent now. I'm not promising anything out of this, so we'll see how well this works.

If you want to learn more about this, go here. When you're signing up that short form, please read everything mentioned prior to that form, as it is important. Please note that Tycoon Resource and Ace Uplink do NOT have to sign up, as I've already taken care of them. Once you've filled out the form, I will contact you with further instructions.

Ace Uplink update

What should we do?
Posted Thursday, May 17, 2001 by Red Phoenix

Since the floor hasn't opened up at E3, I'm not getting much news at this very second, so I figure I'd drop in and get your thoughts on something.

I don't know about you guys, but I see that people are losing interest in RCT. To be frank, I'm losing interest a little as well...I guess you could call it RCT Burnout, or something.

I'd like to know what you'd like to see RCT Station do. If we leave it as an RCT-only site, it will slowly die-out. RCT will not live on forever. If we expand it to a "Tycoon" site, it will possibly thrive, since we would cover most of the PC titles with "tycoon" in the game's name.

I'd really like to hear your thoughts on this, because if I don't do something major with the site by August or September, I think we'll be going down. To send me your thoughts, you can either post them on the forums, or send them to me via email (just click on my name above).

New Interview
Posted Wednesday, May 16, 2001 by Red Phoenix

RCT Tracks has scored an interview with Carrie Holsinger, the webmaster of Tycoon Resource. Here's a snippet:

"How did you become webmaster of Tycoon Resource?
I once had an RCT website online called RCTopia. Steve Bonham, the Site Manager of The Sims Resource saw my site and offered me a job as Site Manager of a new website that MGON was developing called Tycoon Resource. I immediatly said yes and we then moved all of the tracks, parks, etc. from RCTopia to the Tycoon Resource databases. I guess you could say that RCTopia was the basis for Tycoon Resource."

If you are the webmaster of an Rollercoaster Tycoon fan site, I should have something for you later this week. Many of the fan sites are small and don't receive much recognition or submissions, and suffer the possibility of shutting down. I'm going to work on this issue, and it should be unveiled this week, probably Thursday or Friday. So stay tuned!

E3!
Posted Wednesday, May 16, 2001 by Red Phoenix

Unless you've been hiding under a rock, you would know that E3 is this week. For those of you who don't know what E3 is, it's a HUGE trade show for game developers to gather and display their new games, gaming platforms, and other gaming accessories to everyone. For the most part, E3 is not open to the public. If you're involved in the press, you can get into the event. Anyway, as a member of the press, I'll be keeping track of what's going on there (through the web and on TV). Unfortunately, we are unable to attend E3 this year. We're hoping to be there next year. It depends on how well things go this coming year for the Gametropics network.

Since I'll be busy keeping up to speed on E3, there won't be much in terms of updates on the site this week. I will, however, be working on some things behind-the-scenes for the site. If you read the interview with me the other day, you would have an idea of what I'll be working on.

Red Phoenix Speaks!
Posted Monday, May 14, 2001 by Red Phoenix

This weekend, Rob, from RCT Tracks interviewed me. I have to admit it's good to be on the other end of the questions. In the interview, Rob asked me questions that ranged from the future of RCT to several questions about RCT Station. Here's a snippet:

Rob: What is the hardest part of running a major fan site?
Red Phoenix: There are two things that make it difficult. The first being the number of submissions I get. By the time I get six submissions up, I have two or three times that coming in. It's insane! The second would be my modem. I'm still in the slow 56K dialup technology. It's just pathetic. It takes a long time to upload these big files (saved games, for example).

Stalls Page
Posted Wednesday, May 9, 2001 by Red Phoenix

I've added a Stalls page. It has information on all of the various stalls you use in your parks. I even added all of the pricing information you may need.

When doing this, I noticed a slight oddity. It may or may not sound odd to you, but the Umbrellas being sold at the Information Kiosk and at the Souvenir Stall are priced differently. It's just one of those things, I guess.

RCT Station Interviews Chris Sawyer
Posted Monday, May 7, 2001 by Red Phoenix

I had the opportunity to interview Chris Sawyer, and I'm very grateful for the opportunity. In this interview, I ask Mr. Sawyer about the future of Rollercoaster Tycoon and his programming background. Here's a snippet:

Red Phoenix: How did you first get into programming games?

Chris Sawyer: I started programming games first in BASIC and then in Z80 assembler in the early 1980s on some of the home computers available in the UK at that time. That's while I was still at school, and I carried on writing simple games throughout the 4 years I spent at university, while studying "computer science & microprocessor systems". I never thought at that time that this would lead to a career in computer games - It was purely for fun.

New Era Over at Game Tropics Network
Posted Friday, May 4, 2001 by Ogre

There is a new era going on over at the Game Tropics Network. This means there will be major changes for not only GT but also its fan sites. We hope they are all good though. Here is the press release from GT:

"Over the past month at Game Tropics we've been hard at work on not only a new site design but also a new way of doing things. Originally focus was mostly on the fan sites that we host.

Now, however we are going to be focusing solely on the main site. You can find all kinds of great things here including daily news, downloads, interviews, reviews, previews, and much more. So what is going to happen to the fan sites that Game Tropics currently hosts?

Well they are going to be moved over to another new network that is closely tied to Game Tropics. Its focus though is completely on fan sites specifically geared toward anything entertainment. The fan sites will stay however until the new place is ready."

Ace Uplink has been added to the site as a new affiliate, and I welcome them. They recently fixed their broken links and added a new park called Lambland. Be sure to check out our new affiliate. They're also looking for submissions, so if you have a new track or park, send it on over to them.

Updated Park
Posted Tuesday, May 1, 2001 by Red Phoenix

A new day, and a new month. I must say that it's certainly warming up around here. Back to the update.

Four Corners of the Earth has been updated by its author. Be sure to check out the updated version.

Note: I have absolutely no problem with you updating your parks, and I encourage it. I do, however, ask that you include in the email what's been changed. It can be difficult to separate what's new and what's not new.
