| New scenarios added
Posted Friday, November 30, 2001 by BLĄde | | | | Scenic subway Astro turf
This will be the last scenario I make until the new version of SGM is released. The new version will allow me to create real .SC4 scenario files so no more scenario files as saved games!

| Quick Note
Posted Thursday, November 29, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | I just wanted to pop in here and let you know what's going on. I've been testing out the board stuff and should have them ready to go soon. If possible, I'm going to just go ahead and upgrade everything to Ikonboard v3. If this ends up being what I do, there will be a few notices before releasing the boards, because there are some important things you'll need to keep in mind when using the boards.
I should have an actual update on Friday...well, I'm hoping so anyway. | | . |

If you like the sims than check out my sims site you'll find it very...surprising! http://pandorasims.cjb.net | | . |
| Virus Alert
Posted Tuesday, November 27, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | I don't usually post news on new viruses, but I have posted news in the past about particularly nasty ones. There's another called W32.Badtrans.B@mm. You can get more info on it here. One of the interesting things I noticed in this one was it installs a key logger, which is something you don't see in most viruses.
Be sure to scan your PC and be careful when opening attachments. I've received about 20 copies of this one already. | | . |
| Back In Town
Posted Monday, November 26, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | Just letting you know I'm back. The forums are my biggest concern at the moment, just so everyone knows. We hope to have things fixed soon, of course.
While checking out the other RCT sites and checking my mail, there are a few things to mention here.
Rct Titanic and Rct Station have agreed to a merger using the Rct Station name. The merger came about do to bandwidth problems for RCT Titanic. I the Webmaster of Rct Titanic would like to say thank you to every body that helped support Rct Titanic. The content from Rct Titanic should start showing up on Rct Station soon. Shortly the members of the Rct Titanic will be receiving an email announce the change and I hope they will Support this website with the enthusiasm they showed for Rct Titanic.
RCTUK has added another "Choice Park" to their site.
RCT Inc has added a new interview with Doctor J.
I should also note that if you sent me an email about something, it may take a while to get to it, due to the amount of mail I get. I've got a lot of submissions to organize. We hope to have a lot of submissions up soon. Kulras has done a good job so far with saved games, and I've got Rob Tonto working on the tracks section, which has been down for a while now. Other than that, I've got two new sections on the way. We'll have to see when they're launched. We're waiting to get the forums going again. | | . |
| Forums Down - AGAIN
Posted Saturday, November 24, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | So much for my wonderful four day vacation. I've had to take the forums down across the entire network due to the partition sizing. Looks like the server admin screwed up again when they tried to fix it the last time.
I have no schedule for when they'll be back up. They'll be back when the problem is fixed, that's all I'll say. It's technical problems like this that make webmasters quit. | | . |
| Red on the Road
Posted Friday, November 23, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | Just popping in to make sure things are alright. I don't have intentions on checking mail or boards posts until I get back. As you can see, I did manage to find a PC, and I discovered a little something.
A while back, Chris Sawyer posted some (close-up) images of things that were in the game, as well as that church that never made it to the game. I found a similar feature on the official RCT site that's sort of buried. It's a three part article on the Evolution of RCT. This shows you some of the things that never made it into the game. You can also see the really wacky interface Chris Sawyer had going for a while. I'm sure some of you have seen it, but this is a first for myself.
You can check out them right here.
After looking at that stuff, it impresses me of the things Chris Sawyer thought of, but didn't implement for whatever reason. | | . |
| Away
Posted Thursday, November 22, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | Happy Thanksgiving, folks. I'm going to be away pretty much the entire weekend. I've not spent more than 20 hours away from the site more than once since I took it over believe it or not. I've decided now's a good time to do just that.
Enjoy football and stuffing your mouths this weekend. I know I certainly will. I'm sure Ogre or someone here will pop in to make sure that the server is behaving. Take care!
If you get bored, go buy Zoo Tycoon or download and try out Tux Racer. | | . |
| Community News
Posted Wednesday, November 21, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | RCT 1000 will be reopening, or so the webmaster says. We'll have to wait and see.
RCTUK's announced what would probably be the biggest bit of news in a while - Crispy is stepping down from the webmaster position. I chatted with him a bit and learned that mindbender is getting the nod to succeed him. Crispy will remain there as an assistanct until mindbender gets the hang of everything apparently.
I admit that this news isn't all too shocking; It should have happened a few months ago. | | . |
| Saved Games
Posted Wednesday, November 21, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | I've added 5 more LL saved games to the site. That's two saved games updates this week already. | | . |
| New Emoticons
Posted Tuesday, November 20, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | I added some brand new emoticons to the message boards last night. You should find them much more visible and easily to interpret, since the old blue ones were a bit dark. | | . |
| Back Online
Posted Monday, November 19, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | This morning, I got the message boards back online. They appear to be working right now, but if you have problems, let me know. We'll get the other site forums up soon. I have no clue what method Ogre used to take those down, so I can't get them back right now. | | . |
| Saved Games
Posted Monday, November 19, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | We've added eight new LL saved games to the site. They've all been reviewed by Kulras, the newest member of the staff. As I mentioned earlier, he was brought in to give me a hand with the saved games backlog. | | . |
| Chat
Posted Saturday, November 17, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | This would be a great time to use the chat room. It may not be as good as the boards, but you'll be able to interact with others.
Saved games are on the way... | | . |
| RCT Inc Update
Posted Friday, November 16, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | RCT Inc's first community park is now up. Be sure to check out the site, especially if you're one of the builders.
Until we get the forums back up, you can browse over to RCT Inc and use their forums, as I'm sure Chris would like some traffic. | | . |

| Sid Meier's SimGolf Demo
Posted Thursday, November 15, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | There are a lot of Sim gamers here, and I figured you may be interested in this. File Planet has posted a new demo of Sid Meier's SimGolf. | | . |
| Misner's Competitions
Posted Thursday, November 15, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | Jared Misner has been absent from the RCT scene for months upon months. He's made his comeback. Unlike his previous site, it won't be a full-blown RCT site, but rather dedicated to competitions. You can see his new site at http://www.geocities.com/misner2125/. He's also looking for quality hosting, so if you're offering hosting, let him know. | | . |
| Forum Status
Posted Thursday, November 15, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | So do you want the good news or the bad news first? We'll start with the good.
We think we've found the problem... there's no more room on the forum server. Way back in our Gametropics days, the site and the forums were on the same server. So, when one went down, everything went down. We learned a lesson there. With Ogre's Network, we've got them on separate servers, so there's less of a chance of both the site and the forums being down at the same time.
Now to the bad news...
When the person (not any of us, btw) configured how our forums subdomain would be located on the server, he put it on a TINY partition (less than 70MB I believe). So, this means that we will have to move the forum files to another, much larger partition on the server. Unfortunately, this isn't some 15 minute quick-fix, but something that will take some time to do, and get it all sorted out and tested.
We're looking at a relaunch of the forums sometime early next week, unfortunately. I apologize for this inconvenience, but this problem is well out of our hands, it's up to our host to sort out.
In some gaming-related news, the new next-gen consoles are due out soon. The XBox is due out today, so that will be exciting. Nintendo has given resailers the go-ahead on selling the GameCube once it's in stock. This week is shaping up nicely for the consoles. I have two, ridiculous eBay auctions related to the XBox that you may enjoy:

Posted Wednesday, November 14, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | Tycoon Planet's award program has finally finished up the setup process and is all ready for you guys to vote for your favorite sites, rides, staff members, etc. You can begin voting right here. | | . |
| Track Packs
Posted Wednesday, November 14, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | Steve Franks will be the firsy guy to tell you that his recreations aren't perfect, but they're about as good as RCT will allow. Throughout the past few years, he's had to update his packs after finding some new photos which have shed more light on a particular aspect of the ride. This constant updating continues even today.
Today, we feature two updates. The first was an update to his Vortex @ Carowinds pack. This was a minor track fix and a new photo added to the collection.
The second update is for his Virginia Reel @ Kinney Park pack. This includes major track changes and a new bonus track. | | . |
| Downtime
Posted Tuesday, November 13, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | The forums will be down for a while. Sorry for the inconvenience. | | . |
| Forum Awards?
Posted Monday, November 12, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | I was crawling through some new forum topics this afternoon when I came across something that you may wish to post in. You can nominate people in the unofficial forum awards. Alucard came up with a nice idea here. | | . |
| Staff Addition
Posted Monday, November 12, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | In case you haven't noticed, this past weekend, Kulras was brought in as an addition to the staff. His primary duty will be helping me out with parks, so I might actually get caught up sometime. | | . |
| Head Chopping and X-Ray Vision
Posted Monday, November 12, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | How's that for a news title? Actually, it's the title of our latest article for the knowledge base. It was written by Madman, someone who's not been a frequent visitor lately due to real world issues. | | . |
| New P-Spot
Posted Monday, November 12, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | RCT Inc has released a brand new P-Spot for your viewing pleasure. Send them your entry for the one for December! | | . |
| New scenarios added
Posted Sunday, November 11, 2001 by BLĄde | | | | Glennville granite mine Grammer swamp Wet 'n' wild water park | | . |
| Contest Notes
Posted Sunday, November 11, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | If you're looking for a new contest, the November contest rules are up, and you can ask questions about it in the forums. This isn't too hard of a contest, but it will make you work.
If you're still seeking closure on the August/September contest, check out this thread in the forums. | | . |
| New Track Pack
Posted Friday, November 9, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | Steve Franks has finished up work on his Steeplechase recreation, which is from Pleasure Beach, of course. If you remember, last week, we added his Grand National recreation. You can download the recreations here. | | . |
| Changes
Posted Thursday, November 8, 2001 by BLĄde | | | | I scrapped the rating system in the scenario section it was just too much of a pain to set up. Now though there's a hit tracker you can see just how popular each scenario is. By clicking the special link you can see how many times each has been downloaded! | | . |
| Contest Info
Posted Thursday, November 8, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | The contest results are up. You'll not only find the results of the October contest, but the rules for the November contest. The November contest is cut a little short this month...sorry about that.
Be sure to read the rules carefully. | | . |
| Moving to #8
Posted Thursday, November 8, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | Here's the latest sales figures for PC titles in the US:
1) Asheron's Call: Dark Majesty; Microsoft - $20 2) Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge; Electronic Arts - $24 3) Dark Age Of Camelot; Vivendi Universal Publishing - $40 4) The Sims; Electronic Arts - $40 5) MS Flight Simulator 2002 Pro; Microsoft - $70 6) Stronghold; Gathering of Developers - $42 7) Operation Flashpoint; Codemasters - $36 8) MP Roller Coaster Tycoon; Infogrames Entertainment - $22 9) Diablo 2 Expansion Set: Lord of Destruction; Vivendi Universal Publishing - $32 10) The Sims: House Party Expansion Pack; Electronic Arts - $29
RCT is getting cheaper to buy, if you've noticed. I still think it's almost too low to bring much money in for Infogrames. When they bought Hasbro, they inherited all of their debts. A full-blown sequel would give them a hand in that department. So, come on, Chris Sawyer, make us happy once again. | | . |
| Rollercoaster.com
Posted Wednesday, November 7, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | I just noticed that rollercoaster.com is up for sale on eBay. This domain has been thrown around a bit lately. If you've for $50,000 to spend, it's available until Thursday. | | . |
| New scenarios added
Posted Wednesday, November 7, 2001 by BLĄde | | | | Ghoul gardens Chess lakes get em HERE | | . |
| Quick Note
Posted Tuesday, November 6, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | Just so everyone knows, I'm going to try to get the results up for the Oct. contest Thursday or Friday. I've yet to determine what to do about the August/September contest. Hopefully, Water Monkey will return soon...wherever he is. | | . |
| Community News
Posted Saturday, November 3, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | RCT O' Mega has recently opened its doors.
RCT Inc has posted a new P-Spot (Publically-Voted Spotlight). | | . |
| Track Pack
Posted Saturday, November 3, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | Steve Franks has finished up his recreation of the Pleasure Beach Grand National. Apparently, Chris Sawyer's just wasn't accuarate enough. You can check it out here. | | . |
| Downloads Issue
Posted Friday, November 2, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | The downloads problem I brought up recently has been determined to be some sort of problem with the server, and it's probably not related to the download tracker we installed recently. If you end up with a corrupt .ZIP file, either try it again or wait a few hours. That's all I can say for the time being unfortunately. | | . |
| Community News & Affiliates
Posted Friday, November 2, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | I've had a million emails sent asking about affiliates and community news. If you want to know about community news, go here. As for affiliates, if I want an affiliate, I will look for one. Don't send in requests to become one! | | . |

| Download Problem
Posted Thursday, November 1, 2001 by Red Phoenix | | | | I was planning on adding something new today, but it looks like we're going to be doing some bug searching. Apparently, some of the downloads are finishing themselves before they're actually complete, thus giving you a corrupt file. So, if you download something and it ends up being corrupt, you will know why. We are looking into this matter and hope to have it fixed soon. | | . |
